Himalayan White-bellied Rat, is a medium-sized rodent found in the Himalayan foothills and parts of northeastern India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar. It typically inhabits subtropical and temperate forests, often near streams or rocky areas.
This rat is easily recognized by its soft, brownish to grayish fur on the back and a clean white underside, with a long, bushy, and bicolored tail. It is agile and an excellent climber, often nesting in tree hollows, crevices, or dense vegetation.
Niviventer niviventer is nocturnal and omnivorous, feeding on fruits, seeds, insects, and small invertebrates. It plays an important role in seed dispersal within its habitat.
